In this 4-hour workshop, Leandro and Ricardo will tackle the teaching of productive skills from a very practical perspective. By the end of the two sessions, you will feel better equipped to help learners develop a range of skills they need to communicate effectively through speaking and writing.
Leandro will show you what process writing is and how you can implement it in your classes to boost your students’ confidence and potentially spark their interest in becoming better writers.
The writing session will cover:
- Why writing matters
- Stages of the writing process: what does a writing lesson look like?
- Manipulating a model text: genre analysis
- Generating ideas and planning a text
- Giving feedback and assessing writing
Ricardo will demonstrate how you can deliver an effective speaking lesson while providing students with opportunities to speak fluently and accurately.
The speaking session will cover:
- What are speaking subskills?
- The stages of a speaking lesson
- Preparing students to speak/developing speaking subskills
- Giving feedback on speaking

Leandro Zuanazzi has been an English teacher since 2011 when he received a degree in Languages at UNESP. He has considerable experience teaching general English to groups of teenage and adult learners. Currently, he is working as a freelance teacher teaching one-to-one classes to learners with a wide range of needs. He also teaches language teachers who want to improve their level of English and develop their communication skills. He holds the CPE, the CELTA, and the TKT (Modules 1, 2, and 3). Leandro is passionate about professional development and has a special interest in writing skills as well as language development for teachers. He is an active member of BRAZ-TESOL and has given a presentation on developing writing skills for teachers.
Ricardo Barros is a CELTA tutor, Delta module 2 local tutor and freelance teacher trainer based in Jundiaí. He has taught English since 2003, working as a teacher, mentor, academic coordinator and Cambridge speaking examiner. He holds the Delta, CELTA, CPE and a BA in History from Unicamp. His Delta Module 3 Specialism focused on Teaching Exam Classes. He is also interested in Phonology and Language Development for Teachers. Ricardo was an advisory council member for BRAZ-TESOL in 2017/2018.
